Squadron Bivouac
9-11 NOV 01
Maj Booth's Farm in McKinney
To: The Survivor of this weekends Training Bivouac
This weekends training bivouac was great fun and very successful. Major Booth
was a gracious and entertaining host. Lake Booth and the 100-acre spread is a
super place and the weather was great.
The first night the cadets learned to erect tents and set-up camp in the
dark. Cadets were able to do 7 sorties over the weekend; with four held at night
in pitch dark. I think they were better at night than during the day! They
learned to tune in better on the signal and trust the equipment. C\LtCol Lamonte
was tied up and drug across the woods in an attempt to save his life. We failed
and he died along the way so we just buried him. (HaHa) The cadets learned land
navigations skills and drew a scale map of Maj Booth's get-away acres. They used
the radios and increased their confidence in using ProWords. A class was taught
on knots, wilderness survival and emergency shelters. Even with such training,
times remained for fishing, canoeing, and capture the flag events. C/Amn Pruitt
is the fishing king and C/LtCol Lamonte is master of evasion. This was a fun and
worthwhile event. We hope to schedule the next bivouac in Dec or Jan.
Congratulations to all that attended and a special THANKS to Maj Booth for
hosting this event!
