The Plano Mustangs Composite Squadron is a unit of the Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force. This squadron was formed in October of 1997 by a long time member of CAP, Lt Col Bonaventura (Reno) Lauro. The next Commanders where Captain Steve Lamonte (Aug 2000- Dec 2002), Lt Col Jack Faas (Jan 2003 - July 2003), Capt Fletcher Sharp (Aug 2003 - Feb 2005) and Lt Col Bonaventura (Reno) Lauro (March 2005-Sept. 2005) . It is currently commanded by Capt Fletcher Sharp. The squadron strives to achieve the highest standards of professionalism in service to our community and to the United States Air Force. The squadron offers programs for cadets (ages 12-21) and seniors (over age 18). Both groups participate in a variety of training, service, and educational activities. Cadets also receive training in military drill, flight orientations, leadership training and physical fitness. The Plano Mustangs Composite Squadron places a particular emphasis on following the customs, courtesies, and procedures expected of U.S. military personnel. Squadron members wear U.S. Air Force-authorized uniforms to each weekly meeting and other activities. Military officers often appear as guest speakers at meetings. Many Plano Mustangs Squadron members are themselves current, former, or retired military personnel. We are proud of the Civil Air Patrol's status as the only official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and we take care to conduct ourselves in a manner that reflects credit on our sponsor. The Plano Mustangs Composite Squadron is not for everyone.
Our high standards of service and our adherence to military customs require a
dedication and commitment beyond that of the average "weekend warrior."
However, most members would agree that their efforts are well worth it. If you're ready to do your part in service to your country, e-mail us for more information. We look forward to meeting you! Meetings of the Plano Mustangs Composite Squadron are held every Sunday evening at 1830 to 2100 hours (6:30 – 9:00 PM ) for Cadets and Seniors. Meetings are held at the American Legion Post 321, 1236 Avenue J., Plano, Texas. Cadet and Senior Members assemble separately at the
beginning of the meeting to pursue their respective activities. For
cadets, this might mean a period of military drill, physical fitness training,
or aerospace education. Senior Members generally follow a standard
"committee meeting" schedule, then engage in organizational or
educational activities. Cadets later join the Senior Members for an inspection
and awards ceremony. The latest information on the Plano Mustangs Composite
Squadron's activities can be found on our calendar.
At least once a month, cadets and senior members come together to hear a guest speaker. In keeping with the Plano Mustangs Composite Squadron's belief in emphasizing the important link between the Civil Air Patrol and the U. S. Air Force, speakers frequently include current or retired military personnel discussing topics related to military aviation. Visitors and potential members are welcome to attend meetings. We recommend calling ahead first to verify that a particular meeting is open to the public and not cancelled for holidays. We hope to see you soon!
